World’s Leading Beach Destination 2020
Beating 18 other nominees, which included destinations in the Maldives, Thailand, Jamaica, Mexico and the USA, the Algarve was, for the first time, considered this year’s leading beach destination.
The award is a remarkable achievement, even more so in the times we are living.
For instance, in this singular year the travel industry faced challenges like never before. Moreover, the destinations had to provide new solutions to encourage tourism while maintaining safety and security.
“It is with immense pride that the region receives this award for the first time worldwide. It is also an enormous responsibility, which obliges us to continue to work constantly, to raise the standards of the tourist offer of our destination. Despite the difficult challenges that the sector has been dealing with this year, we realise that the desire to travel remains. Furthermore, it is more alive than ever, which represents, for companies and professionals in this area, a fair recognition of their merit, a feeling of hope and a great incentive to continue working and to believe that tourism will be reborn and return even stronger”, said João Fernandes (Algarve Tourist Board).
Europe’s Leading Beach Destination 2020
Additionally, the Algarve also won the award for Leading Beach Destination in Europe 2020. This is the seventh time that the region receives the honorable distintion from the World Travel Awards.
Considered the “Oscars” of the travel industry, the World Travel Awards, bring together leaders of the travel and tourism industry who annually participate in this initiative and vote to reward the best tourism offers at a global level.
